The Simple Farm

Yesterday, my friend Diane and I took a day to play.  First we went to the Simple Farm which is set amidst upscale homes in the bustling and affluent city of Scottsdale, AZ.  The Simple Farm is nestled between homes in a neighborhood just off the 101 Freeway.

After arriving at Diane's about 8:30 and entering the gate to her lovely home which is also on a mini farm, we quickly started our journey as we had much to see.

A simple sign welcomes us to the parking lot which is already full of cars.  We will go earlier next time as there were a lot of people and it was already heading into the 90's that early in the morning!

Those who arrive before the farm is open on Thursdays are welcomed to have a seat and some water.

This is the waiting area.  Isn't it lovely --even lace!

Our journey led us through the raised beds.  You can see the drip irrigation tubing which is the only way one can garden here.  This is the desert, after all!

There were sunflowers everywhere.  Sunflowers are a favorite of mine so I was in heaven!

Some were among other flowers providing a cottage garden feel.

This tall one against the fence was heavy with seeds.  You can see the neighbors roof reminding us we are indeed in the city.

When a wheelbarrow wears out -- plant flowers in it!

We passed the gourmet garden.

Peach trees were scattered about.

Ooh la la, the French garden!

A pretty blue bench was by the flower garden sign.

And another among the flowers.

There were some wonderful bird cages - alas, not for sale.

These were so chippy and lovely!

I loved the chalk board signs everywhere!  This one educated us about the chickens.  Did you know that chickens like to be petted?  How about that they have ears and earlobes?  This one really amazed me, you can tell what color eggs a chicken will lay by the color of the lobes!  Really!  Google it and see!

Chickens must be smart, too.  These were in the shade!

Look at the variety.  We only had white ones when I was growing up on the farm.

There were goats, too.  They get milk from the goats and in the little shop they sold goat cheese and other products made with the goat's milk.  (More on the shop in another post - I took a LOT of photos and this post would have been really long if everything went in it.)

There they are.  They were seeking shade, too.

We started with Diane's gate and will end the tour for today with these at the Simple Farm.  In the next post I will share some of the products from the Simple Farm.

I left with the desire to come home and bake bread, plant a garden and buy some chickens, but I don't think our HOA would approve of the chickens!

Just to tease you, we also went to The Old World Quilt Shop and Sweet Salvage, too.  More photos from those two wonderful shops in future posts.

Hope you are having a fantastic Friday!
